Jose Olvera was born in Mexico in June 1872. Nothing is known about his early years. He married Felipa Hinojos circa 1896. She was born in Mexico in May 1882. There is conflicting information about their immigration date to the United States, but their first child, son Florencio, was born in Texas on October 27th, 1897 and was baptized in Terlingua, Texas in July1898. In the 1900 census, Jose’s occupation is shown as “wood hauler”. The family was in the Castolon (then known as Santa Helena), Texas area in 1904. By 1908 they were in the San Vicente, Texas area. In the 1910 census Jose’s occupation is shown as “freighter, hauling goods”. Felipa died in Marathon April 21st, 1946, Jose died In Alpine October 18th, 1947. Both are buried in the Marathon Cemetery. Jose’s occupation was shown as “carpenter” in his death record.
Jose and Felipa had five children, 1. Florencio, 2. Paula, 3. Isidro. 4. Josefa, 5. Juana:
1. Son Florencio Olvera was born in Texas on October 27th, 1897. He was baptized in Terlingua, Texas on July 28th, 1989 by Father Brocardus. His godmother was Manuela Ramirez. No godfather was shown on the baptism record. In 1910 he was living with his parents in the San Vicente, Texas area, but no additional information is available on him.
2. Daughter Paula Olvera was born in Texas on June 18th, 1900. She was baptized in Terlingua, Texas on September 27th, 1900 by Father Brocardus. Her godparents were Susano and Manuela Ramirez. She was living with her parents in the San Vicente, Texas area in 1910. She married Lazaro Hinojos in a civil ceremony in 1915. Their Catholic ceremony was performed by Father Max Weyert in Santa Helena (later Castolon), Texas on October 5th, 1921. Lazaro was born in Comanche, Texas December 17th, 1892, the son of Pablo Hinojos and Nicolasa Ochoa. He farmed for many years in the Castolon area. Lazaro died in Alpine May 31st, 1979 and Paula died there May 29th, 1990. Both are buried in the Marathon Cemetery.
Paula and Lazaro had three children:
A. Daughter Isabel Hinojos was born circa 1922, probably in Castolon.
B. Son Felipe Hinojos was born May 1st, 1924 in Castolon. He died in Marathon October 5th, 1985 and is buried there. He married Maria Garcia in Marathon September 21st, 1952. She was born in Marathon February 11, 1924, the daughter of Eulalio Garcia and Carlota Gonzales. She died in Alpine February 13, 1970 and is buried in Marathon. (Click here to see death record)
Felipe and Maria had six children:
(1) Daughter Angelica Hinojos was born in Marathon July 11th, 1953 and died there the following day. She is buried in the Marathon Cemetery. (2) DaughterSocorro “Sokie” Hinojos was born in Brewster County June 27th, 1954. She married Richard Aguilar and in August 2012 they were living in San Antonio. (3) Son Teodoro Hinojos was born in Marathon November 9th, 1955. For most of his adult life he lived in Hobbs, New Mexico. He worked as a maintenance man in Hobbs and Las Cruces. (4) Son Domingo Hinojos was born in Brewster County July 21st, 1957. He was living in Hobbs in August 2012.
(5) Son Amado Hinojos, twin of Maurillo, was born in Brewster County September 13th, 1960. He was living in Hobbs in August 2012.
(6) Son Maurillo Hinojos, twin of Amado, was born in Brewster County September 13th, 1960. He was living in Hobbs in August 2012.

C. Son Preciliano Hinojos was born circa 1929, probably in Castolon.
3. Son Isidro Olvera was born on May 15th, 1904 in Castolon, Texas. He was baptized on October 8th, 1904 in Terlingua, Texas, His godparents were Carlos Acosta and Pascuala Ramirez. In 1910 he was living with his parents in the San Vicente, Texas area. Circa 1925 he married Socorro Medrano. She was born on November 7th, 1908.
From at least 1934 through 1937 Isidro worked for the Chisos Mining Company in Terlingua, Texas. He was employee #946. On April 27th, 1934 he suffered an injured foot from a rock fall. He refused to go to the company doctor, so was not given half time pay. Company officials believed he had quit and had gone to work for Rainbow Mining Co. or elsewhere, but five days later he returned to work. On February 12th, 1935 he cut his fingers on an ore bucket. According to a note in the company record, he “left and went to town. Would not go to Dr. here anymore.” Isidro suffered another injury on July 1st, 1937, when he sustained two cuts on the calf of his left leg. He was off for 12 days and was given half-time pay. Isidro and his family apparently remained in Brewster County through at least 1944, but no specific information is available.
Nothing more is known about Isidro until 1968, when he was living in Baird, Callahan County, Texas at 604 East 2nd Street. He was a railroad employee. Isidro died of an apparent heart attack at his residence in Baird on September 26th, 1974 and is buried at Ross Cemetery in Baird. His wife Socorro died on December 31st, 1989 and is buried at the Ross Cemetery. Isidro and Socorro had nine children:

D. Daughter Gomecinda Olvera was born on January 3rd, 1931 in Brewster County, Texas.
E. Daughter Pabla Olvera was born in Marathon, Texas on March 2nd, 1933. She died of Pneumonia in Terlingua, Texas on May 2nd, 1934. She was treated by Dr. E.A. Montenyohl, a Chisos Mining Company doctor, just prior to her death. She is buried in the Terlingua Cemetery.
F. Son Acencion Olvera was born in Brewster County, Texas on June 2nd, 1935.
G. Son Ambrocio Olvera was born on December 6th, 1937 in Brewster County, Texas.

4. Daughter Josefa Olvera was born in Texas on March 2nd, 1908. She was baptized on April 26th, 1908 in San Vicente, Texas by Father Brocardus. Her godparents were Remijio Garcia and his wife, Rosario Martinez. She died on January 10th, 1971 in Permian General Hospital, Andrews, Texas from complications of colon cancer. She is buried in Andrews Cemetery. She was a resident of Ojinaga, Mexico at the time of her death.
5. Daughter Juana Olvera was born on August 17th, 1910. She was baptized in San Vicente, Texas on October 3rd, 1910 by Father Brocardus. Her godparents were Nicandro Carrillo and Lorenza Flores. She married Domingo Terrazas circa 1928. They had one daughter:
