Jose Luis "Joey" Hernandez Sr., died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2011 at his home in Alpine.
Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the Geeslin Chapel of Alpine Memorial Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, followed by the funeral Mass. Burial will be in Holy Angels cemetery.
Mr. Hernandez was born Nov. 22, 1959, in Alpine to Josephine and Alvaro Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Teresa and Jose Luna; his father, Alvaro Hernandez Sr.; and one brother, Jaime Hernandez.
Survivors include his wife, Josie Hartnett of Alpine; his mother, Josefina Hernandez of Alpine; one son, Jose Luis Hernandez Jr. of Alpine; two sisters, Irma Lindley of Fort Worth and Yolanda Rodulfo and husband Javier of Floresville; two brothers, Alvaro Hernandez Jr. of Alpine and Joel Hernandez and wife Rebecca of Lubbock; and grandsons Xose Hernandez, Kylan Hernandez and Iziaha Woods.
"The angels came down from heaven and took him in his sleep because he needed an angel in heaven to watch over his family here on earth," his family said. "Heaven opened its gates to Joey so he could be reunited with loved ones already there."
