A Documented Research Report by Bob Wirt
Version 1, 15 April 2010
Herculano de la Cruz was born in Mexico circa 1880. He married Francisca Rios circa 1907. She was born in Mexico circa 1885. They immigrated to the United States, probably in 1916(a). Herculano was employed by the Study Butte Mining Co. from January 1917 through May 1919, when the mine closed. Apparently among the more dependable of an otherwise highly transient workforce, Herculano worked at average of over 27 shifts per month in the mine at $1.25 per shift and also did some contract work. His average monthly income was $37.50.
Herculano and his family were still in the Study Butte area when the census was taken in the spring of 1920, but probably moved to Shafter, Texas soon afterwards. He died in Shafter on 10 February 1929 of Pulmonary Tuberculosis and was buried there the following day.
No information is available on wife Francisca following Herculano’s death.
