Francisco Monclova was the son of Pedro Monclova and Victoriana Ornelas (see “Ancestors and Siblings for family information). He was born April 2, 1868. His death record indicates he was born in Presidio, Texas but he probably was born in Mexico. In 1890 Francisco and Victoriana Rojo had a child out of wedlock:
- Son Ruperto Rojo was born March 27, 1890 in Alamito, Texas. He was a World War I Veteran. Later he made his home in Marfa, Texas where he worked in the masonry cement business. Ruperto died April 8, 1974 in Big Bend Memorial Hospital in Alpine. He is buried in the Merced Cemetery in Marfa.
Francisco married Isabel Valenzuela December 27, 1906, probably in Alpine. She was born in November 1871 in San Pablo, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Antonio Valenzuela and Juana Rodriguez. She was the sister of Felix Valenzuela, a well-known Terlingua resident. Isabel died October 19, 1939 and is buried in the Marathon Cemetery. After Isabel’s death, Francisco married Maria Diaz, but they were divorced by the time of his death. He died in Alpine March 3, 1956 and is buried next to Isabel in the Marathon Cemetery.
In 1910 Francisco was working at the railroad station in Marathon. In 1920 he was a “laborer, general work” and in 1930 he was working as a sheep shearer.
Francisco Monclova and Isabel Valenzuela had eight children:
1. Son Manuel Monclova was born January 17, 1897 in Shafter, Texas. In 1910 he was living in the Marathon area with his parents. He lived in Victoria, Texas 1932-1963 where he worked as in ice plant engineer. He died in Victoria January 9, 1963 and is buried in Catholic Cemetery #3 in Victoria.
2. Daughter Julia Monclova was born January 28. 1900 in Marathon. She was baptized February 17, 1900 in Marathon, Texas by Father Brocardus. Her godparents were Victor and Maria Dominguez. In 1910 and 1920 she was living with her parents in the Marathon area. She married Juan Valero December 25, 1918. He was born June 24, 1898 in Mexico, the son of Francisco Valero and Barbara Maldonado. Julia and Juan had five children:
A. Daughter Manuela Valero was born June 9, 1920 in Marathon. She married David Garcia November 11, 1936 and they had ten children:
(1) Daughter Irene Garcia was born October 20, 1937 in Brewster County. In March 2009 she was living in McCamey, Texas. Her married name is Flores.
(2) Daughter Ramona Garcia was born September 25, 1943 in Marathon. She married Francisco Jaquez Molinar August 10, 1969 and they had six children. See http://www.lifebeforetheruins.com/antonio-molinar.html for details and more information on the Molinar family.
(3) Son David Garcia was born November 21, 1945.
(4) Son Antonio Garcia was born February 4, 1947 in Brewster County. He was living in Alpine in January 1975. He was deceased by May 2009.
(5) Daughter Clemencia Garcia was born November 22, 1948 in Brewster County. In May 2009 she was living in El Paso. Her married name is Lopez.
(6) Daughter Genoveva Garcia was born April 14, 1952 in Brewster County. In March 2009 she was living in Alpine. Her married name is Villarreal.
(7) Son Adrian Garcia was born June 19, 1956 in Brewster County. He died January 17, 1975 in a construction accident in front of the Sunday House Motel on the east end of Alpine.
(8) Daughter Elidia Garcia was born December 9, 1957. In March 2009 she was living in McCamey, Texas. Her married name is Hinojos.
(9) Daughter Minerva Garcia was living in Arlington, Texas in March 2009. Her married name is Mancha.
(10) Daughter Manuela Garcia was living in Midland in March 2009. Her married name is Ybarra.
B. Son Angel Valero was born August 2, 1923 in Marathon.
C. An unnamed son was stillborn in Marathon November 16, 1927.
D. Daughter Guadalupe Valero was born December 12, 1930 in Brewster County. On June 18, 1952 she married Emilio Briceno Salmon. He was born in Marathon July 17, 1929, the son of Juan Soto Salmon and Anita Briceno. Emilio died in Alpine January 14, 2008 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery. Guadalupe and Emilio had four children:
(1) Son Jose Antonio Salmon was living in Alpine in January 2008. His wife’s name is Adelaida.
(2) Daughter Pricilla Salmon was living in Alpine in January 2008. Her married name is Estrada.
(3) Daughter Maria Salmon was living in Waco, Texas in January 2008. Her married name is Rodriguez.
(4) Daughter Gracie Salmon married Jim Shepherd and in January 2008 they were living in Midland.
E. Son Jesus Marcos Valero was born September 25, 1939 in Brewster County.
3. Son Miguel Monclova was born September 27, 1902 in Marathon. In 1910 and 1920 he was living with his parents in the Marathon area. In 1920 he was working as a laborer, general work. He died in Del Rio, Texas July 17, 1987.
4. Daughter Delfina Monclova was born December 24, 1905 in Marathon. In 1910 and 1920 she was living with her parents in the Marathon area. She married Ladislao Cordova June 10, 1925. He was born June 27, 1903 in Terlingua, the son of Juan Cordova and Caledonia Ballesteros. They made their home in Marathon where Ladislao worked as a carpenter. They later moved to Del Rio and in December 1975 they were living at 101 Cordova Lane. Ladislao died in Val Verde Memorial Hospital in Del Rio December 2, 1975. Delfina died in Del Rio July 17, 1981. Both are buried in Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Del Rio. Ladislao and Delfina had four children:
A. Daughter Lucila Cordova was born May 6, 1926 in Texas. She was a member of the first integrated class in Marathon Public School (8/9 grade) in September 1940.
B. Daughter Hortencia Cordova was born in Marathon January 11, 1928.
C. Daughter Engracia Cordova was born in Marathon March 13, 1932.
D. Son Juan Cordova was born in Brewster County May 29, 1936.
5. Son Pedro Monclova was born February 17, 1907 in Marathon. He married Martina Hernandez September 9, 1926. She was born in Terlingua November 11, 1908, the daughter of Florencio Hernandez and Ester Cordova. Pedro and Martina had four children:
A. An unnamed son was stillborn in Marathon August 11, 1927.
B. Daughter Ofelia Monclova, twin of Esperanza, was born August 1, 1928 in Marathon.
C. Daughter Esperanza Monclova, twin of Ofelia, was born 1 August, 1928 in Marathon.
D. An unnamed daughter died at birth May 11, 1930 in Brewster Co.
Pedro Monclova married Porfiria Pinedo March 10, 1941 and they had three children:
A. Daughter Olga Monclova was born December 18, 1938.
B. Son Heradio Monclova.
C. Daughter Lorina Monclova.
6. Daughter Agapita Monclova was born April 24, 1909 in Marathon. In 1910 and 1920 she was living with her parents in the Marathon area. Agapita died in Alpine October 31, 1998 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery. She married Nieves Fierro September 27, 1926 and they had six children:
A. Son Manuel Fierro was born June 16, 1928 in Balmorhea, Texas. He was a resident of Alpine from 1939 until 1999. After an enlistment in the U.S. Army – he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant – he worked for Kimbells, Safeway and Furrs for many years before his retirement in 1990. He died in Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine July 6, 1999 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery. On February 20, 1954 Manuel married Delia Granado, daughter of Amado Granado and Victoriana Vega. Delia died in an El Paso Hospital October 6, 2008 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery. (1) Daughter Victoriana “Vicky” Fierro was living in Alpine in October 2008.
(2) Son Samuel Fierro was living in El Paso in October 2008. His wife’s name is Annabelle.
(3) Son Reymundo "Randy" Fierro was living in El Paso in October 2008. His wife’s name is Lilia “Lilly”.
(4) Son Gabriel "Gary" Fierro was living in Odessa in October 2008. His wife’s name is Graciela.
(5) Son Roberto “Bobby” Fierro was living in Odessa in October 2008. His wife’s name is Mercy.
(6) Son Manuel Fierro, Jr. “Cougar” was born in Alpine October 20, 1966. He graduated from Alpine High School and attended Sul Ross State University. He died in Alpine June 12, 2004 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery.
2. Daughter Julia Monclova was born January 28. 1900 in Marathon. She was baptized February 17, 1900 in Marathon, Texas by Father Brocardus. Her godparents were Victor and Maria Dominguez. A. Daughter Manuela Valero was born June 9, 1920 in Marathon. She married David Garcia November 11, 1936 and they had ten children:
(1) Daughter Irene Garcia was born October 20, 1937 in Brewster County. In March 2009 she was living in McCamey, Texas. Her married name is Flores.

(3) Son David Garcia was born November 21, 1945.
(4) Son Antonio Garcia was born February 4, 1947 in Brewster County. He was living in Alpine in January 1975. He was deceased by May 2009.
(5) Daughter Clemencia Garcia was born November 22, 1948 in Brewster County. In May 2009 she was living in El Paso. Her married name is Lopez.
(6) Daughter Genoveva Garcia was born April 14, 1952 in Brewster County. In March 2009 she was living in Alpine. Her married name is Villarreal.
(7) Son Adrian Garcia was born June 19, 1956 in Brewster County. He died January 17, 1975 in a construction accident in front of the Sunday House Motel on the east end of Alpine.

D. Daughter Guadalupe Valero was born December 12, 1930 in Brewster County. On June 18, 1952 she married Emilio Briceno Salmon. He was born in Marathon July 17, 1929, the son of Juan Soto Salmon and Anita Briceno. Emilio died in Alpine January 14, 2008 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery. Guadalupe and Emilio had four children:
(1) Son Jose Antonio Salmon was living in Alpine in January 2008. His wife’s name is Adelaida.

3. Son Miguel Monclova was born September 27, 1902 in Marathon. In 1910 and 1920 he was living with his parents in the Marathon area. In 1920 he was working as a laborer, general work. He died in Del Rio, Texas July 17, 1987.
4. Daughter Delfina Monclova was born December 24, 1905 in Marathon. In 1910 and 1920 she was living with her parents in the Marathon area. She married Ladislao Cordova June 10, 1925. He was born June 27, 1903 in Terlingua, the son of Juan Cordova and Caledonia Ballesteros. They made their home in Marathon where Ladislao worked as a carpenter. (6) Son Manuel Fierro, Jr. “Cougar” was born in Alpine October 20, 1966. He graduated from Alpine High School and attended Sul Ross State University. He died in Alpine June 12, 2004 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery.
B. Son Fermin Fierro was born July 7, 1930 in Marathon. From about 1948 to 1952 he served in the U.S. Army’s 24th Combat Infantry Division. This included two years of service in Korea. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and other decorations, and was discharged as a Sergeant. He died June 15, 1952 as a result of an automobile accident on route U.S. 90 about four miles west of Alpine. He was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by Roy Fulcher. Fermin died near McCamey in an ambulance en route to the Veterans Hospital in Big Spring. He is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery in Alpine. Guillermo Gonzalez died in the same accident.
Fermin married Berta Natera April 14, 1948 and they had two children: (1) Son Amando Fierro was born March 3, 1950 in Alpine. (2) Daughter Elidia Fierro was born April 14, 1952 in Alpine. |
C. Son Raquel “Rex” Fierro was born May 22, 1940 in Brewster County. He married Maria Louisa “Mary Lou” Hernandez September 1960. In October 1998 they were living in Alpine. They had three children:
(1) Daughter Laura Fierro was born August 20, 1961.
(2) Son Oscar Fierro was born November 5, 1962.
(3) Son Joe Freddy Fierro was born July 30, 1965.
D. Daughter Isabell Fierro was born July 21, 1942 In Brewster County. She married Simon Salas May 8, 1960. He was born October 28, 1940 in Brewster County, the son of Pedro Salas and Francisca Ortega. In October 1998 they were living in Alpine. They had four children:
(1) Daughter Cynthia Salas was born December 13, 1960.
(3) Daughter Chris Elda Salas was born in Brewster County March 15, 1965.
(4) Son Noel Salas was born in Brewster County June 26, 1968
E. Son Jose Fierro was born October 5, 1944 in Brewster County.
F. Son Eduardo Fierro was born October 17, 1946 in Brewster County. In October 1998 he was living in Presidio. His wife’s name is Olivia.
7. Son Margarito Monclova was born February 22, 1912 in Marathon. In 1920 was living with his parents in the Marathon area. In 1930 he was living with his parents in what the census taker called “Central Mexico”, Marathon, Texas. He died in Alpine August 7, 1977. On March 19, 1936 he married Dionicia Rodriguez, daughter of Florencio Rodriguez and Canuta Garcia. She was born April 8, 1916 in Marathon and died September 2004 in Fredricksburg Care Center, San Antonio. She is buried in Marathon Cemetery. Margarito and Dionicia had five children, all born in Brewster County:
A. Son Pablo Monclova was born June 30, 1937.
B. Son Luis Monclova was born August 19, 1939.
C. Daughter Yolanda Monclova was born February 18, 1945.
D. Son Enrique “Henry” Rodriguez Monclova was born February 24, 1947. On June 6, 1972 he married Maria Elena Villarreal in Brewster County. She was born in 1945, the daughter of Antonio Villarreal and Manuela Ybarra. In September 2004 Enrique and Maria Elena were living in Alpine. They had two children:
(1) Daughter Isabel Villarreal Monclova was born April 9, 1971 in Brewster County.
(2) Son Ronnie Villarreal Monclova was born September 4, 1974 in Brewster County.
E. Daughter Elodia Monclova was born September 28, 1949.
A. Son Pablo Monclova was born June 30, 1937.
B. Son Luis Monclova was born August 19, 1939.
C. Daughter Yolanda Monclova was born February 18, 1945.
D. Son Enrique “Henry” Rodriguez Monclova was born February 24, 1947. On June 6, 1972 he married Maria Elena Villarreal in Brewster County. She was born in 1945, the daughter of Antonio Villarreal and Manuela Ybarra. In September 2004 Enrique and Maria Elena were living in Alpine. They had two children:
(1) Daughter Isabel Villarreal Monclova was born April 9, 1971 in Brewster County.
(2) Son Ronnie Villarreal Monclova was born September 4, 1974 in Brewster County.
E. Daughter Elodia Monclova was born September 28, 1949.
8. Daughter Victoriana Monclova was born December 23, 1915 in Marathon. In 1920 she was living in the Marathon with her parents, and in 1930 she was living in “Central Mexico”, Marathon with her parents. On April 8, 1931 she married Eduardo Ortiz and they had seven children, all born in Brewster County:
A. Son Natividad Ortiz was born September 8, 1932.
B. Daughter Ernestina Ortiz was born March 22, 1935.
C. Daughter Ofelia Ortiz was born April 1, 1937.
D. Daughter Nifa Ortiz was born November 9, 1941.
E. Son Ramon Ortiz was born March 4, 1944.
F. Son Eduardo Ortiz was born July 14, 1945.
G. Son Valente Ortiz was born February 21, 1947.
A. Son Natividad Ortiz was born September 8, 1932.
B. Daughter Ernestina Ortiz was born March 22, 1935.
C. Daughter Ofelia Ortiz was born April 1, 1937.
D. Daughter Nifa Ortiz was born November 9, 1941.
