Antonio Aguilar, 55, of Marathon, died Sunday, March 2.
Rosary was recited on Wednesday, March 5 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today at 2 p.m. at the church with Father Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will follow in the Marathon Cemetery. Geeslin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Antonio was born in Marathon on Jan. 19, 1948 to the late Antonio Aguilar Sr. and Sara Aguilar. He served in the Vietnam War from 1968-69. His life’s passion was his patriotism to his country, but his main concern was for the soldiers that were MIA and POW. He always rode his Harley-Davidson and proudly displayed the MIA and POW flags in recognition of this. He worked at Tony’s Phillips 66 and Son in Marathon until 1991. He was employed by Big Bend National Park as a welder and fabricator. He will be remembered and missed by all for riding his Harley-Davidson and being a proud grandfather.
Survivors include his mother, Sara Aguilar of Odessa; his three daughters, Zenja Archuleta and husband Brian of Sierra Blanca, Toni Aguilar of Marathon and Bianca Aguilar of Alpine; his four sisters, Glynda Gonzales and husband Bill of Lubbock, Lorissa Gonzales and husband Lupe of El Paso, JoElla Bewley and husband David of Odessa, Gina McCormack and husband James of Monahans; his grandmother, Teodora Garcia of Marathon; and his grandchildren, Carlos and Stefani Ross, Zion Gonzales, Meghan and Arissa Aguilar.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend National Park, Friend of Trails.
