Esteban Reyes was born August 3, 1874 in Mexico. He was the son of Genaro Reyes and Matilde Flores. He may have lived in Presidio County before moving to the Terlingua area. In 1905 Esteban was working as a miner for the Mariposa Mining Company and in 1920 he was working as a mine laborer in the Terlingua area, probably the Chisos Mining Company. Around 1923 Esteban and his family moved to Alpine, where he worked as a driver of his own truck.
Esteban married Faustina Valdez circa 1901. He died in Alpine January 4, 1956. Faustina died in Brewster County Memorial Hospital March 24, 1960. They both are buried in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Esteban and Faustina had four children:
1. Daughter Eustolia Reyes was born January 29, 1906 in Texas. She was baptized in Lajitas April 21, 1906 by Father Brocardus. Her godparents were Epifanio Villa and his wife, Paula Galindo. She married Eleuterio Hernandez circa 1928. He was born in Alpine March 19, 1901, the son of Luis Hernandez and Eulojia Nunez. Eleuterio worked as a stone mason and was a life-long resident of Alpine. Eustolia died of heart failure in Alpine November 6, 1941. Eleuterio died in Brewster Memorial Hospital July 29, 1970. Both are buried in Holy Angels Cemetery. They had three children:
A. Daughter Enedina Hernandez was born in Alpine September 11, 1929.
B. Daughter Fabiola Hernandez was born in Alpine May 24, 1933. (The name is as it appears in her birth record, but may be incorrect.)
C. Daughter Beatrice Hernandez married Agapito Carrasco, Jr. (See http://www.lifebeforetheruins.com/agapito-carrasco.html for more information on the Agapito Carrasco family.) Beatrice and Agapito had one child:
(1) Daughter Veronica Carrasco was born September 13, 1948 in Brewster County.

(1) Daughter Veronica Carrasco was born September 13, 1948 in Brewster County.
2. Son Merardo “Lalo” Reyes was born June 8, 1910 in Terlingua. He was baptized at “Chisos Mine” September 25, 1910 by Father Brocardus. His godparents were Roman De La O and his wife, Tomasa Morales. In 1930 he, along with his first wife and son, were living in Alpine with his parents. At that time he was driving a truck, very likely his father’s, since he was receiving no pay for his work. Later he worked for many years for Sul Ross State University. On September 3, 1929 he married Gregoria Losoya and they had two children:
A. Son Nolberto Reyes was born February 2, 1930 in Alpine and lived there all of his life. He worked as a liquefied petroleum serviceman. Nolberto died of cardiac arrest in Big Bend Memorial Hospital November 10, 1975 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery.
B. Daughter Baudelia Reyes was born October 28, 1931 in Alpine. She died there January 19, 1934 of measles and pneumonia and is buried in Alpine.

Merardo married Jesusita Martinez September 28, 1942 in Brewster County. She was born January 13, 1919 in Terlingua, the daughter of Roberto Martinez and Teresa Flores. Merardo died in a hospital in Odessa October 20, 1984 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery. Jesusita died in Alpine September 3, 1986. They had six children:
A. Son Merardo Reyes, Jr. (#1) was born in Alpine 28 June 1943 and died there the same day. He was buried in Alpine by his father on 29 June.
B. Daughter Maria Rosario Reyes was born April 30, 1944 in Alpine. She married Roman De La O, Jr. February 8, 1964 in Brewster County. He was born January 30, 1942 in Alpine, the son of Roman De La O and Jesus Jaquez Molinar. (see http://www.lifebeforetheruins.com/antonio-molinar-2.html for more information on the Molinar family.) Rosario and Roman were still living in Alpine in October 2011. She is a retired school teacher and he is a retired railroad worker.
A. Son Merardo Reyes, Jr. (#1) was born in Alpine 28 June 1943 and died there the same day. He was buried in Alpine by his father on 29 June.
B. Daughter Maria Rosario Reyes was born April 30, 1944 in Alpine. She married Roman De La O, Jr. February 8, 1964 in Brewster County. He was born January 30, 1942 in Alpine, the son of Roman De La O and Jesus Jaquez Molinar. (see http://www.lifebeforetheruins.com/antonio-molinar-2.html for more information on the Molinar family.) Rosario and Roman were still living in Alpine in October 2011. She is a retired school teacher and he is a retired railroad worker.
C. Daughter Hortencia Reyes was born in Alpine April 21, 1945. She died there November 12, 1947 and is buried in the Alpine Cemetery.
D. Son Merardo Reyes, Jr. (#2) was born in Alpine March 24, 1946 and died there August 24, 1946. He is buried in Alpine.
E. Daughter Maria Concepcion “Concha” Reyes was born August 9, 1947 in Alpine. She was living in Alpine in October 1984. She married Jesus Molinar, son of Eduardo Molinar and Conrada Jaquez. Jesus was born December 25, 1942 in Alpine. He died in a Houston hospital March 25, 1994 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery, Alpine. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. F. Son Merardo Reyes, Jr. (#3) was born in Alpine July 17, 1949. He was still living in Alpine in 2010.
D. Son Merardo Reyes, Jr. (#2) was born in Alpine March 24, 1946 and died there August 24, 1946. He is buried in Alpine.
E. Daughter Maria Concepcion “Concha” Reyes was born August 9, 1947 in Alpine. She was living in Alpine in October 1984. She married Jesus Molinar, son of Eduardo Molinar and Conrada Jaquez. Jesus was born December 25, 1942 in Alpine. He died in a Houston hospital March 25, 1994 and is buried in Holy Angels Cemetery, Alpine. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. F. Son Merardo Reyes, Jr. (#3) was born in Alpine July 17, 1949. He was still living in Alpine in 2010.
3. Son Mercedes Reyes was born September 24, 1910 and was baptized at Chisos Mine September 26, 1910 by Father Brocardus. His godparents were Roman De La O and his wife, Tomasa Morales.
4. Son Andres Reyes was born December 30, 1915 in Terlingua. He was baptized in Chisos April 4, 1916 by Father M. Cuadrado from St. Agnes Catholic Church in Terlingua. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked for the city of Alpine. He died in Midland Memorial Hospital February 16, 1993 and is buried in Holy Angles Cemetery, with military graveside services provided by the Alpine VFW. Andres married Genoveva Aranda May 11, 1946 in Brewster County and they had four children:
4. Son Andres Reyes was born December 30, 1915 in Terlingua. He was baptized in Chisos April 4, 1916 by Father M. Cuadrado from St. Agnes Catholic Church in Terlingua. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked for the city of Alpine. He died in Midland Memorial Hospital February 16, 1993 and is buried in Holy Angles Cemetery, with military graveside services provided by the Alpine VFW. Andres married Genoveva Aranda May 11, 1946 in Brewster County and they had four children:
A. Son Andres “Andy” Reyes, Jr. was born June 28, 1952 in Alpine. He served with the U.S. Air Force in Thailand and later worked for many years for Sul Ross State University. He was a resident of San Antonio in February 1993. He died in Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio December 25, 1993 and is buried in Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.
B. Daughter Laura Reyes was born June 18, 1955 in Brewster County. In February 1993 she was living in Florida. He married name was Garcia.
C. Daughter Tina Reyes was living in Alpine in February 1993. Her married name was Sanchez.
D. Daughter Rebecca Reyes was living in Alpine in February 1993. Her married name was Ybarra.
B. Daughter Laura Reyes was born June 18, 1955 in Brewster County. In February 1993 she was living in Florida. He married name was Garcia.
C. Daughter Tina Reyes was living in Alpine in February 1993. Her married name was Sanchez.
D. Daughter Rebecca Reyes was living in Alpine in February 1993. Her married name was Ybarra.
