Elijio Garcia was born in Mexico circa 1865. On August 2, 1884 he married Anastacia Banda in San Miguel Arcángel Templo, Mexquitic de Carmona, San Luis Potosí. The couple probably remained in Mexquitic de Carmona at least through 1895. In 1905 they were living in Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico and in 1917 they immigrated to the United States. They settled in Mariscal, Texas, where Elijio worked in the mercury mine. Elijio and Anastacia had six children:
1. Son Luis Garcia was born in Mexquitic de Carmona in 1891 and was baptized in San Miguel Arcángel Templo January 24, 1891. He immigrated to Texas with his family in 1917 and went to work in the mercury mines at Mariscal. He married Felipa Aguirre in Mariscal(a) December 20, 1922. They were married by Father Max Weyert from St. Agnes Catholic Church in Terlingua and their witnesses were Epitacio Hernandez and Pioquinta Salazar. Felipa was born in 1906 in Sierra Mojada, the daughter of Pablo Aguirre and Rosario Hernandez.
The Mariscal Mine closed in 1923 and Luis probably moved to Terlingua soon afterwards. By December of 1925 he was working for the Chisos Mining Co. and continued to work for them at least through November 1936. His employee number was 755. While working for Chisos Mining Co. Luis was involved in at least eight accidents:
- On December 26, 1925 a falling rock in shaft number 9 cut a gash in his left heel. He missed work for ten days.
- On September 6, 1926 he hurt his foot while working in shaft number 9 and missed work for 21 days.
- On November 1, 1927 he injured his foot on a piece of steel and missed work for 14 days.
- On June 15, 1928 he suffered a deep gash in his leg when a large rock fell in shaft number 9. He missed work for two days.
- On November 6, 1928 he cut his right hand when a machine drill broke and missed work for four days.
- On November 27, 1931 he cut and mashed a finger on a machine drill. He was given half pay for the 13 days of work he missed.
- On June 10, 1932 he stepped on a nail while working. He was not allowed half pay because he reported stomach trouble to the doctor instead of the foot injury. He missed work for ten days.
- On 6 November, 1936 he was working as a prospector and driller in shaft 8. While attempting to pull the drill from the rock, it came loose suddenly and he suffered contusions around his mid section. He missed work for three days, for which he received half pay.
By March 1939 Luis and his family were in Shafter, and by 1943 they were in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Luis and Felipa had eleven children:

A. Daughter Feliciana Garcia was born circa 1923 in Texas. In 1920 she was living with her parents in Terlingua. He married name is Huerta and in May 2002 she was living in Artesia, New Mexico.
B. Daughter Isabel Garcia was born July 8, 1925 in Terlingua. She was delivered by midwife Rosario Mata. In May 2002 she was living in Artesia. Her married name is Trevino.
C. Son Ceferino Garcia was born August 26, 1927 in Terlingua. He served with the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War. He married Eva Salgado in Marfa July 16, 1955. Ceferino retired from El Paso Products in September 1989. He died at his home in Odessa May 11, 2002 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. Ceferino and Eva had six children:
(1) Daughter Melinda Garcia was born April 2, 1960. She died in Odessa January 31, 2001. Her married name was Ortiz.
(2) Son Charlie Garcia was living in Odessa in May 2002, His wife’s name is Linda.
(3) Son Seferino “Billy” Garcia was living in Odessa in May 2002.
(4) Son Joe Garcia was living in Odessa in May 2002.
(5) Daughter Mary Ann Garcia married Ruben Rodriguez. In May 2002 they were living in Odessa.
(6) Daughter Nelda Garcia married David McGuire. In May 2002 they were living in Odessa.
D. Daughter Josefa Garcia was born in Terlingua circa 1929,
E. Son Isabel Garcia was born in Terlingua July 8, 1931. In May 2002 he was living in Artesia.
F. Daughter Eloisa Garcia was born in Terlingua March 14, 1933.
G. Son Felix Garcia was born in Terlingua May 18, 1934. In May 2002 he was living in Artesia.
H. Son Ladislado Garcia was born in Terlingua September 3, 1936. He died of peritonitis in Shafter March 29, 1939 and is buried in Shafter.
I. Son Juan Garcia was born in 1943. He died in Carlsbad December 18, 1943.
J. Daughter Margie Garcia was living in Artesia in May 2002. Her married name is Rodriguez.
K. Daughter Flora Garcia was living in Pittsburg, California in May 2002.

2. Son Nicanor Garcia was born in Mexico. He was baptized in San Miguel Arcángel Templo, Mexquitic de Carmona, San Luis Potosí on January 21, 1894.
3. Daughter Delfina Garcia was born in Mexico. She He was baptized in San Miguel Arcángel Templo, Mexquitic de Carmona, San Luis Potosí on January 6, 1895.
4. Son Carlos Garcia was born in Sierra Mojada, Coahuila November 4, 1905. He immigrated to Texas with the family in 1917 and in 1920 was working in the Mariscal Mine. He probably moved to Terlingua soon after the mine closed in 1923 and in June 1926 was working on the Burnham Ranch near Terlingua. On August 29, 1925 he married Andrea Holguin, probably in Terlingua. They were married by Father Julius Gremaud from St. Agnes Catholic Church in Terlingua and their witnesses were Pedro Hinojos and Ernestina Moreno. Andrea was born November 10, 1906 in San Carlos, Mexico. She was the daughter of Brigido Holguin and Petra Lujan. Carlos and Andrea had one known child:
A. Daughter Aurelia Garcia was born June 16, 1926 in Terlingua.
5. Son Jose Garcia was born in Mexico circa 1906. He immigrated to Texas with the family in 1917 and in 1920 was working in the Mariscal Mine.
6. Son Juan Garcia was born in Mexico circa 1911 and immigrated with the family to Texas in 1917.

Note:
There are two records of this marriage. One is the official marriage record filed with the County Clerk in Alpine and the second is an entry in the ledgers of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Terlingua. The former does not give a specific location for the event, but the latter indicates it occurred at “Mina de 34, Texas”, which is a reference to Mariscal.
