Ceferino A. Garcia Sr., 74, of Odessa, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at his home.
Funeral Mass was at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Odessa with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial with military services followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Terlingua to the late Luis and Felipa Garcia. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division. He married Eva Salgado on July 16, 1955, in Marfa. He retired from El Paso Products in September 1989. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Garcia Ortiz.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Eva Salgado Garcia; three sons, Charlie Garcia and wife, Linda, Ceferino “Billy” Garcia Jr. and Joe Garcia, all of Odessa; two daughters, Mary Ann Rodriguez and husband Ruben, and Nelda McGuire and husband, David, all of Odessa; two brothers, Felix Garcia and Isabel Garcia, both of Artesia, N.M.; and four sisters, Feliciana Huerta, Isabel Trevino and Margie Rodriguez, all of Artesia, and Flora Garcia of Pittsburg, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Lionel Salgado of Marfa; grandchildren, Myra Uvalle and husband, Santos IV, J.R.., Marcus and Steven Rodriguez, Pedro Ortiz Jr. and wife, Becky, Joe Michael and Sonya Ortiz, Toni De La Torre and husband, Jaime, Laura Garcia, Roxanne and Brianne McGuire, all of Odessa, and Cpl. Matthew Garcia of Albany, GA., and three great-grandchildren, Santos V. “Bubba” and Caitlin Uvalle and Alex De La Torre.
Pallbearers were his grandsons and nephews, Manuel Gonzales and Felix “Boy” Garcia Jr.
